Quilter math

Quilty Cartoon: quilter units of measurement

I can sew a precise quarter-inch seam, but I cannot accurately estimate how long I’ll be in a quilt shop.

Quilter math is its own system. A little fabric, a quick stop, one more project… all perfectly reasonable until someone asks for actual numbers.

And “almost done” is a stage of quilting that has no expiration date. That quilt from 2019 still counts.

What other quilter units of measurement should we add?

Creator’s Note: Our Quilty Cartoons often start with a real-life quilting moment. Dave (my husband) is the illustrator behind the comics, and I’m usually the inspiration for the story. He’s been drawing comics since he was a kid, created a comic strip for our university newspaper when we were dating, illustrated editorial cartoons, and even produced weekly comic-style Sunday School lessons for years. It’s been so much fun combining his love of drawing with my love of quilting to create these for our quilty community each week. ☺️
